OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

When working in a special education needs (SEN) school you will come across a range of learners, with different conditions, diagnoses, and sensory processing challenges. As a key adult involved in their care, whether that is in the classroom, food hall, playground and across the rest of the school, it is important you have a knowledge of sensory integration to help problem solve and recognise their needs, assist them to maintain regulation and achieve their full potential. This training has been developed to build your understanding of sensory integration, what a sensory diet is and how to carry out helpful activities with the children.

Throughout the training you will engage reading the content, watching youtube videos and reading fact pages. You will cover content on:

  • What is Sensory Integration and why is it important?
  • What is a Sensory Diet?
  • How to use the Sensory Integration room?
  • Is it sensory or is it behaviour?
  • Occupational Therapy services in Glenwood
  • Case study examples.

WHERE DO I START?

All the educational content is provided through Jump Start Centre’s online training platform. Once we receive your email address we will provide you with a password to access the training. This password will be valid for 1 year, we ask you to complete the training within this time.

Once you are logged onto the training platform, the content will be presented as follows:

  • Sensory Integration
  • Sensory Diets
  • Sensory Integration Rooms
  • Behaviour or sensory?
  • Occupational Therapy support in Glenwood

We ask you to start at the top with ‘Sensory Integration?’ and work your way down, through the content.

At the bottom of each page there is a ‘complete lesson’ button. Once you have selected this your progress bar will become updated to demonstrate where you are in your training.

WHAT DO I DO ONCE I HAVE FINISHED?

Once you have completed an email will be sent automatically to the facilitating therapists to inform them of your completion.

Once you have completed all the content, we ask you to complete a feedback form which is attached to your original email. This will allow us to monitor and upgrade the training as per the schools needs. Once this is completed, the facilitating therapist will have received a response email and can dismiss you from the training.
