Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy, known as OT, is a specialist healthcare profession which uses assessment and treatment to empower people to reach their full potential, achieve their goals and enjoy life.  Occupational Therapy provides practical support to help people’s independence and enable them to overcome barriers preventing them from taking part in activities.

At Jump Start Therapy we specialise in children and young people’s OT, but can assist adults too.  When a child has learning, emotional, physical or sensory difficulties there may be barriers to accessing opportunities and living a fulfilled life.

Occupational therapists have an in-depth understanding of child development, medical conditions, neurology, psychology and sensory integration which they use to help children achieve their full potential.  They use specialist standardised assessments to observe a child’s difficulties (sensory, social, physical, environmental or emotional) and provide effective treatment techniques and plans.   Play and activity is used to develop children’s skills through the use of  specialist equipment.  Our centre in Feering has a purpose built therapy room, with equipment designed to help coordination, balance, gross and fine motor skills.
